　it作形式主语时，它后面真正的主语有两种情况：to do 不定式，that从句和其他的从句。如果后面的从句是一个完整的句子那么这个从句就叫主语从句。比如说，It is not possible to determine whether both continents are moving in opposite directions or whether one continent is stationary and the other is drifting away from it.在这句话中，it 形式主语，后面to determine 是真正的主语。紧接着，我们看到了whether 引导词, are moving谓语动词，说明determine后面跟了一个whether引导的从句。往下看，又有一个or whether。其中whether A or whether B，表示选择，是A还是B。or whether 后面有出现了is 谓语动词，说明whether后面又连接了一个句子。我们知道determine 后面有谓语动词，那就有从句。determine 是动词，动词后面是宾语，那么determine 后面连接的就是宾语从句。
